The conversation dies on her end because she is waiting for your reaction (accepting rejection/pushing past her bs).

If the silence is coming from your end, that means what she says has too strong an effect on you. I used to get that way too and once a woman told me she had a bf, I would freeze up and be at a sudden loss for words.

I started getting pissed off at myself because of this. Now I never let things like this kill off my conversations.

Just tell yourself that you are an interesting guy and believe in yourself. If a woman gives you static bs, just keep pushing past it. Of course be careful because her bf might be there with her, but in my experience, these women are usually alone at the time, so just go for it.

You guys are confusing anecdotes for patterns.

9 out of 10 times "I have a bf" translates to "I'm not interested". If you want to battle those odds that's fine by me, but you're wasting your time on women that are either unavailable or play stupiplaying games.
An actual interested women that happens to have a boyfriend will not bring him into the conversation until the very point his existence is redundant.

Yes, but the women "aren't interested" based on nothing since they don't even know the guy yet. I realize that sometimes they truly do have a bf, but even if they do and you are confident and get them to show interest, you could turn a potential shutdown into a close or at least a contact exchange.

While this isn't always the case, I have pulled women that started off trying to push me away with the bf claim.
