I quit for about a year and a half. I used an e-cig for about 2 or 3 months to break the habit of just GOING OUTSIDE to smoke. Puff on that every so often. Eventually you feel stupid carrying the thing around and the nicotine addiction has pretty much faded. It only takes about a week to get nicotine out of your system. Its the act of actually DOING it that makes it difficult.

Get rid of any clothes that smell like smoke and have your car detailed too so you don't have to smell it anymore. Otherwise, its just will power. It's gonna suck lol

Can't really help from personal experience, but my grandpa quit by constantly chewing on a toothpick.

Other than that, pep talk yourself in front of a mirror. Pick up something else that is addictive, but healthy such as running.

DUDE........I got ya.

1 word: ecig. I works. I smoked heavily for 5 years and got sick of it. I mean sick of it. My teeth were brown, breath was atrocious, and I blew through cash like a fat girl through a buffet. I go to college in Morgantown and there are several head shops and picked up a refillable e-cig. A week later, I forgot about my cigarettes. I haven't touched one since. It comes with awesome flavors like mint, coconut, chocolate, etc....

Also, it's a great tool at the bar. I rip it out and start sucking on it and girls are like "what is that?" all the time. I hooked up with one girl because she wanted a cig and I let her borrow my e-cig. She had to come to me all the time for it then next thing you know, we made out and then went home together. I highly recommend it!

I was a smoker for about 5 years and also used ecigs to quite. Its cheaper then the patch and it seams to cure the craving. Just make sure to get a good vape because the cheap ones leave a nasty taste.

it is a decant one, another product that helps is niQuitin lozenges, its like a little pill thing you suck, they taste like minty tobacco a little bit but the cravings seem to go away longer than when i have a go on the e-cig, other advice iv got that helps is chewing normal gum, it has been a week now and i am loving life, starting to feel good when i tell people i don't smoke, i get all up on my high horse about it

I'm a gym junkie and quit smoking this year as per the obvious detrimental health factors. Watch this video and think about what you look like inside.

I'm a new user and the forum won't let me post off site URLs so go to youtube and search this video ID: 5BpxwRGVGdc

It's test that shows you the crap that goes into your lungs from a single ciggarette. Plus smoking stinks, and a good test for you to do yourself is to kiss a smoker after they have a ciggy. Is it a pleasurable kissing experience?

I feel your pain. I have a few words of advice on quitting smoking.

1. It is similar to quitting heroin and you may experience severe withdrawal symptoms such as an irritable attitude and the uncontrollable urge to squirm in your seat.

2. Ultimately, quitting must be cold turkey because every 1 cigarette you smoke winds your addiction right back up.

3. Switch to ultra-light cigarettes which have 2 milligrams of nicotine in them as opposed to lights having 4 and full flavors having 8. This should make the nicotine addiction less severe.

4. Set a quit date and smoke ultra-lights between now and then.

5. With your quit date within 3 days range start tapering your smoking to 1 cigarette every half hour on day one, then on day two add five more minutes between each cigarette you smoke and on day 3 lower the amount you smoke to approximately 7 cigarettes in the day evenly spaced. So every 2 and a half hours have 1 ultra-light cigarette on day three.

6. On your quit date, throw away all of your smoking paraphernalia, apply a step 1 patch and then ride the patch for 7 days. It takes approximately 7 days to get over the habit. After you have had a successful week, lower the patch dose and wean off of it.

7. This is the most important step. NEVER PICK UP ANOTHER CIGARETTE. NOT EVEN 1. One more cigarette becomes a whole new habit and it can be very discouraging trying to quit again.

Best of "luck".

why would you want to stop smoking? contrary to popular belief smoking could be very beneficial... and many even consider it a part of attractive lifestyle...

To all the people who quit using e-cigs and patches, good for you, but I would not recommend them at all. In many cases, they are actually counter-productive and make it harder to quit. I have friends and relatives who rebound from patches to cigarettes to e-cigs and back to patches again. Anything which provides your body with nicotine is bad, because it is just keeping your addiction alive. I only made one anti-smoking purchase which helped me quit first time (in fact it was free as it was a present) and I never rebounded: Allen Carr's book the "Easyway To Quit Smoking". It analyses the psychology of why you smoke and dissects it to the extent that you won't want to smoke and you won't crave. You will even wonder why you ever smoked at all. I guarantee this book is the best $10 you'll ever spend.

All the quit smoking companies like Nicorette and NiQuitine who make e-cigs and patches WANT you to keep on smoking because they are only able to make profit from people who are "trying" to quit or rebounding from cigarettes to patches like a yo-yo. This is why they put nicotine in their products, so that the moment you stop, you will crave either a patch or a cigarette and KERCHING! more money for them. If everyone quit smoking, they would all lose their jobs. Think about it.

The only way to quit is completely cold turkey. No cutting down, no nicotine, no weak bitch gimmicks designed to rip you off. I smoked 20 Marlboro reds a day. Last day I smoked in 2005, I smoked 20 as normal the day I finished reading the book. The next day, I smoked ZERO and never touched a cigarette since. Don't be a bitch. Man up and quit without the expensive gimmicks and save your cash towards building that attractive lifestyle.

thank you, for me this is the best advice iv read so far, been using an e-cig for weeks, it runs out of battery... i pinch a fag off someone, i leave it at home... i pinch a fag off someone... it gives me a weird sore throat... i stop using it and pinch a fag off some one (notice a pattern here?) i smoke an awful amount of cigarets for a "non smoker" and its pissing me off!

the plan is as of now don't smoke! stop putting cigarets in my mouth and setting them on fire.

also DeepBluesy is that 7 day thing like a medical fact? evan if not thats given me confidence!

"6. On your quit date, throw away all of your smoking paraphernalia, apply a step 1 patch and then ride the patch for 7 days. It takes approximately 7 days to get over the habit. After you have had a successful week, lower the patch dose and wean off of it."( wont let me quote in edit)

thanks guys

Here is another thing you can try if it is hard because you just like cigarettes (that's my problem too lol)

Buy a carton. Label each pack 1-10.

The first pack... Give yourself a cigarette every hour.
The second pack... Every 2 hours.
Third Pack... Every 3 hours.
Fourth Pack... Every 4 hours.
Fifth pack... every 5 hours.
Sixth pack... Every 6 hours. (By this time you will have slowly lowered your nicotine dependance to only 4 cigarettes/day)
Seventh Pack... Every 7 Hours.
Eighth Pack... Every 8 hours.
Ninth Pack... Every 9 hours.
And your tenth pack you will be smoking a cigarette or two a day.

Try NOT smoking within your first hour or two of waking up. Spiking that nicotine craving in your body will only make it worse. I did this and quit for about 6 months. (wound up smoking again due to stress and a drunk night with my ex-girlfriend lol)

Try and stay away from people who smoke. It will only make you crave it more when you smell it.
