I messaged this woman yesterday but she replied with a neutral ass response with no real way to reel from it, which always makes me frustrated. I can never think of a good way to respond while trying to keep interesting/wity/edgy. Any suggestions would help.

Me: Hey, happy belated birthday! Did you do anything special or just relaxed and enjoyed the fireworks?

Her: Hi , Thank you I just stayed at home and watched movies , saw a few fireworks , lost a few friends recently so I was in mourning. I celebrate the whole month as my birthday so its all good . How are you?

All I really have for a response right now is something like 'Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your loss'...

"Sorry about your friends, but I'm sure they would rather you were living your life and having fun on your birthday!"

That response is not too kiss ass...Be aware that she may be really "mad" at the world and take it out on you! I know when my parents died, I was no fun to be around for a year. If she comes back with a negative after your response, then I would say "Shoot me a message when your feeling better".

Yeah, I ended up responding similarly but got no response. Just another dead end.
