Hey!
I've read several books on body language so maybe I can help you.
As far as I know, there are three types of "gazes":
- Social gaze:
inmagine a triangle from her eyes untill her mouth/chin. If you look in this area it is the social gaze.
- Business gaze:
inmagine a triangle from her eyes untill the top of her head (so basicly, looking above the eyes), this is a business gaze. (people who do business together usually use this gaze to AMOG)
- Interest gaze:
Inmagine a longer triangle from her ears untill her stomach, if you look in here, this is the interest gaze.
Funny things about this:
- If you are in the social gaze, you show interest.
- if you look at her breasts, she knows you are in the interest gaze instead of the social gaze, and then she knows your interested (basicly the reason why you should never look at her boobs while she sees you)
To answer your question. There is nothing wrong with looking at her mouth in this scenario. Only thing I can think of is that by looking at her mouth, you are thinking of kissing. (btw, if she does the same, she is also) So make sure that does not give your game away. However, social wise, it is accepted as normal as far as I know it.

I've read in different books and around the internet different names. I've read in books eye to eye to lips is the intimate gaze(this is what I refer to it as), I've read that it was the eye to eye to crotch is the intimate gaze. Everyone seems to refer to it differently, but everyone agrees that it is better for escalating.
I consider the social gaze the business gaze because I don't look a man I'm socializing with in the lips sorry, it doesn't happen. I look at the lips to build sexual tension and let her know what I want, a kiss.
I agree it is normal to look a woman in the lips when you talk to her, you should continue doing it but I would personally look to the eyes as well.
