This is from Psychology Today, based on studies. Sounds like legit assumptions to me. Of course it's mental... Again... PSYCHOLOGY today. I don't see the point you're making here.
Several "other" scientific journals disagree with your assertion, and so do I. Masturbation is not "harming" to anyone, nor does it do anything other than give you a temporary buzz. All this babble about masturbation doing "this, that, and the other" to your health is absurd and abuse of good actual science. The only "known" things masturbation do are as follows: make it harder to ejaculate the next time (depending upon frequency); make it harder to maintain erection (again due to frequency); lower the individual and question's sperm count (you guessed it... frequency); and lower a man’s response to other peoples’ touch (*sighs… frequency). Science hasn't "proven" much other than the above. And all these are just "temporary" side effects that go away after some good rest and perhaps if it gets too bad a good diet to help fix the problem.
If there are “other” side effects they seem to result from “other” conditions and “not” masturbation. For example feeling tired or sluggish could be more closely tied to an individual’s depression, which is often a comorbid symptom of chronic masturbators. We have no clue how much a part this plays in an individual’s energy levels, but there is generally a good idea that chronic masturbation like any other “mental” addiction is often accompanied with other “mental” conditions as well.
I maintain my suspicion that this is nothing more than another attempt to back up community superstition and pseudo-science that really just needs to stop.
I do think these side effects are temporary... unless you masturbate twice or more every day... then that's not temporary unfortunately since you repeat the action again and again.
As you said, I also think it's not only about masturbation and physical reactions. As far as I'm concerned, there are psychological effects linked to masturbation. This article clearly states this. It's not saying saying it's only masturbation, but it's related to it... especially too much masturbation and porn. The question is what is too much... Guess it depends.
On a personal level, I clearly feel the bad consequences of masturbating... It's not that I do it a lot, but when I do... I'm way less confident. I could even say I'm insecure for at least two days. I doubt way more of myself... Maybe it's related to the physical chemistry triggered by masturbating (yet it's the same thing as having sex)... maybe it's psychological... Masturbating makes me ashamed... or at least, do not help me having a good image of myself...
I guess the issue is complicated... but I think masturbation is clearly not the way to go to tackle self-confidence and lack of social ability.
And I agree on most things. Masturbation is definitely time consuming and time wasting to be honest. However, masturbation has not known long term side effects that cannot be healed with adequate rest, change in habit, and a change in diet.
