All I'm hearing is a bunch of cult assumptions with no science to back it up. This all sounds mental. Forgive my skepticism.

you're right, the community is filled with these assumptions. Like the whole no drinking thing. Because Mystery thinks drinking lowers value he assumes all women do too, and then half the guys on here come to agree.

I am trying to stop but I find it hard to :(

Any tips anyone who has stopped but found it hard?
Focus on what makes you do it. If being bored makes you masturbate... avoid being bored... if the simple fact of being naked makes you jerk off... avoid being naked...

Understand what make you masturbate, and tackle it.

This is from Psychology Today, based on studies. Sounds like legit assumptions to me. Of course it's mental... Again... PSYCHOLOGY today. I don't see the point you're making here.

Several "other" scientific journals disagree with your assertion, and so do I. Masturbation is not "harming" to anyone, nor does it do anything other than give you a temporary buzz. All this babble about masturbation doing "this, that, and the other" to your health is absurd and abuse of good actual science. The only "known" things masturbation do are as follows: make it harder to ejaculate the next time (depending upon frequency); make it harder to maintain erection (again due to frequency); lower the individual and question's sperm count (you guessed it... frequency); and lower a man’s response to other peoples’ touch (*sighs… frequency). Science hasn't "proven" much other than the above. And all these are just "temporary" side effects that go away after some good rest and perhaps if it gets too bad a good diet to help fix the problem.

If there are “other” side effects they seem to result from “other” conditions and “not” masturbation. For example feeling tired or sluggish could be more closely tied to an individual’s depression, which is often a comorbid symptom of chronic masturbators. We have no clue how much a part this plays in an individual’s energy levels, but there is generally a good idea that chronic masturbation like any other “mental” addiction is often accompanied with other “mental” conditions as well.

I maintain my suspicion that this is nothing more than another attempt to back up community superstition and pseudo-science that really just needs to stop.

I do think these side effects are temporary... unless you masturbate twice or more every day... then that's not temporary unfortunately since you repeat the action again and again.

As you said, I also think it's not only about masturbation and physical reactions. As far as I'm concerned, there are psychological effects linked to masturbation. This article clearly states this. It's not saying saying it's only masturbation, but it's related to it... especially too much masturbation and porn. The question is what is too much... Guess it depends.

On a personal level, I clearly feel the bad consequences of masturbating... It's not that I do it a lot, but when I do... I'm way less confident. I could even say I'm insecure for at least two days. I doubt way more of myself... Maybe it's related to the physical chemistry triggered by masturbating (yet it's the same thing as having sex)... maybe it's psychological... Masturbating makes me ashamed... or at least, do not help me having a good image of myself...

I guess the issue is complicated... but I think masturbation is clearly not the way to go to tackle self-confidence and lack of social ability.

And I agree on most things. Masturbation is definitely time consuming and time wasting to be honest. However, masturbation has not known long term side effects that cannot be healed with adequate rest, change in habit, and a change in diet.

It's quite possible that people masturbating 2 times a day and watching heaps of porn have anxiety problems in the first place. That's why they are watching so much porn rather than shagging real life ladies. I love my porn, I prefer ladies. But some nights I just can't be fucked going out or I get a boner at 10am and just wanna have some fun. Never affected my outlook or my perception of women. Never made me depressed or anxious, and never affected my approach anxiety. Because those things weren't negative in the first place.

This is often why, when guys are depressed or bent over I'm thinking that it is an issue of depression and not masturbation. Often times masturbation is an "outlet" not the source. Masturbation every now and then is healthy and keeps your sperm healthy. But chronic masturbation is time consuming and I believe that was AFC Daniel's intent when he made this. If so, then I agree that it is time wasting and time consuming.

I've never thought of it that way. Hell sometimes I'll rub one out on a Friday just so that if I do happen to get lucky later that night, I'll at least be able to last like 20 30 minutes. But truthfully I don't see masterbating as socially damaging, I still open people I've never met. Although, I think cutting back would be beneficial in terms of your sexual energy you project when talking to a girl. (E.g. being horny to the point where it's radiating out of you)

Good topic of discussion. I love mind benders.

It's not hard to stop yourself from doing it or some people may refer to it as an addiction. All you have to do is simple don't be alone. Get out go see some friends or make them come and see you. If that's not possible then just play some Computer games or go to the gym. Just every time you feel like you would fancy a wank try to stop it and think of something else.... :D

ever considered that going out with a loaded gun makes you willing to shag girls you otherwise might not. You'll check out every girl, be desperate, girls can pick up on that. I haven't failed to pick up on a night out in so long I can't remember going home horny, and I masturbate sometimes directly before I go out. Stop taking this all so seriously, just relax and talk to attractive women. Job done
