Some intelligent activities I do that are very addicting and fun for me.
Magic: the Gathering - It's a tradign card game that has been around for a long time now. It is an extremely addictive fun game that requires a lot of thinking and informed choices. These choices effect the deck you are building, and once your deck is built, how you play with it. As with all card games luck is a factor but skill is waht will help you win. Some people might say that trading card games are for losers, but i really don't care, it's a fun activity and can keep you entertained for hours. The only downside is that it can get kind of expensive, but not much more than most hobbies.
Freerunning/Parkour - This is another activity I do, it's hard to describe so it would be best to simply look it up. Many might say that it is just a sport for daredevils and idiots but this simply isn't the case. Through the art you learn to quickly analyze situations to great detail, from judging distances better to knowing what materials are good for what. In addition to the mental benefits it's also a good form of exercise, and can actually come in handy.
magic is a good laugh, but its not exactly chat up material. i rekon the people here want hobbies so they sound interesting. wich identical guy do you reckon would get the girl if he says 'im bussy till friday. ive got judo, boxing, art class and my driving test'
vs the guys that says 'ive got magic on friday and dungeopns and dragons tomorow. but apart from that all i will be doing is running into walls at break neck speed'. kudos to you though. i always wanted to try freerunning. never had the balls.
Well to clear up one thing, I don;t play D&D, just because i do one "nerdy" activity doesn't mean that I enjoy them all. I have many activities that I enjoy, these are just two that I think help improve intelligence.
I think that it's a very bad trait fro one to be embarrassed about the things they enjoy. If someone is shallow enough to put someone aside for something they enjoy, especially something social and intelligent like a card game, they are too shallow for my liking anyway.
I think that having a wide range of interests is good, and if people disagree with some of them, well they don't have to partake in it.
Also, you don't have to talk about all the hobbies you do to everyone.
