Tbrady,

I've been lifting weights now for over 4 years. Admittedly, probably the 1st year and a half I probably did most things wrong, but still. I weigh 6ft1 and weight around 180 lbs.

My question is: Why am I not growing? I haven't grown at all from last year till now. And why do I still look like I haven't been lifting for longer than just a year or two?

On an everyday basis I make it a point to get in around 200 grams of protein. I take multivitamins, protein-powders, and etc. but, I feel like i'm not where I should be at physically and I really would like to be there.

My workout routines I change every 4-6 weeks.

If you need me to answer more questions before you can help please ask or pm me.

Some more background information: I workout at a real gym, not a garage. I started working out and I weighed around 130 lbs. The heaviest weight I ever reached was 198 lbs and that was due to me drinking an unnecessary amount of milk/weight gainers ( and I didn't look good at all).
you cant build a house with no bricks...what i mean by that is u cant put on muscle without having enough calories

obviously if they are not clean calories u will get fat like u said..but everyone always talk about protein to get them bigger..which ya it is true however eating good clean complex carbs is where its at..

they will give you more energy to lift weights plus if ur not utilizing carbs or fat as energy then basically ur using protein and burning muscle to fuel energy

u need carbs and protein with every meal..its a must!
Tbrady, please check your PM.

Hey,
I've just joined the forum and one of my things that i think would help build my confidence is to start working out and i'd like to add some muscle to my shoulders and arms, I'm not overweight or anything, I have a six pack but i'm just kindof small, i'm not saying i want to be massive, just not so "cute" or "scrawny" do you have any workout routines that could help to build mass for upperbody? And what foods do you think would be best?
Thanks :)
Some more info about me just in case it's needed
I'm 16years old
I play soccer and run 2 miles every other day

First get a diet sorted, work out your calories, protein, fat, carbs needed per day, and add say 5-10% onto that, for slow, lean growth, your football (soccer) will keep you quite lean.

Google strong lifts 5 x 5, core workout, builds your whole body at a good pace too, but your diet's what will develop you!

Hey there,

I was looking into getting some recovery shake formula, when one of my friend's mentioned Chocolate milk as a cheap alternative. Apparently it has that optimal 4 to one carb to protein ratio as is. Is that really a good option for post-workout?
depends what your goal is..
if its lose weight then prob not the best
if its put on some mass..then it is actually a really good choice!!

ive read articles about chocolate milk being a good alt..

idk if 5x5 is where ya wanna start..no offense..but your a soccer player so if u focused on a routine like that it would hurt your performance..your goal is very realistic and u can achieve while improving your soccer game! double bonus! specially for the the lady situation!

but yes the diet is important

exercise and nutrition go hand in hand..cant get one without the other

start slow with weights that are easy and u can handle

too many people start to fast get hurt, and then quit..dont be a statistic!

Disagree, few of the guys at my semi pro football (soccer team) started doing stronglifts workout and worked a treat, put on lean mass, kept fit and the fat down and strength went up.

The more you eat of good foods, the bigger you'll get, that's why working out macro's is in need, and not guessing. Theres under limit, maintenance and building for diets.

He needs to start working core exercises, shoulders will grow quick, plus all round strength. With good, clean diet just above maintenance, steady growth will occur.

im not saying it wouldn't help build strength and burn some fat..however like i was saying its no ideal for his sport or his goal

soccer is an endurance sport..doing a 5x5 program is more muscular strength..not endurance..

basing a routine off of a 5x5 would hurt his performance on the field..

however structuring a linear periodization in where he involves a brief period of muscular strength involving a 5x5 program wouldn't hurt either

Ok, you're either:
1) Retarded.
2) Just spamming the forums with stupid posts to raise your post count.

Every post I see from you is helpful in no way at all and is more pointless than posting a bunch of smiley faces.

But to answer that question...
Have you ever seen someone with big muscles? Of course you have....
Therefore weight lifting works well...

Common sense is a great thing.
Learn to use it.

bodyweight exercises can be incorporated in any weight lifting program of course..but by themselves..prob not the best..u might see a little difference after alot of work

alot work in resistance training will yield much greater results..
that is if you have a good structured program

it makes me laugh when i see big ripped guys on tv marketing there bodyweight program like p90x, tai boe, getting ripped will jillian michaels etc etc. and how you can get big and ripped

its marketing people!!! of course there going to tell u a fairy tale!

A-there taking something illegal or
B- there using resistance training more then there program there hyping up!

Hey thanks for doing this !

my question:

1. Is eating ice cream *ben and jerry`s*
Once a week, about half a bucket, realy bad ?

Thats about all the real Junk that I eat, for the rest just eat normal meals, and try to pick wisely, and avoid the chips etc.

Perhaps a foolish one, its just, I want to know, because its so great that ice cream, but is it realy bad, its 2 buckets a month, if you think about it..
How does the body, handle that..

In a nutshell NO.

It's all about working out your macro's, how many calories, grams of protein, carbs and fat your body needs a day, to maintain, if you want to lose fat, create a deficit, if you want to get bigger, add to it.

I'm in need of 3400 cals a day, 230g protein, 220g carbs and 70g fats to maintain.

I have one set of cheat meals a day, to give me a little boost, sugars, some bad fats etc, keeps me going, seeing good results, looking good, feeling strong too.

SO basically as long as the majority of your diet's in good shape, ben and jerry's once a week is no problem.

I'd like to pop in and say that everything that tbrady has been saying is pretty spot on. Congruent with everything ive been reading on bodybuilding.com forums (of reputable members) and articles

I been into body building for the past 4 years, started in high school, 6'0 @ 140lb. Bulked to 165, lost it all back to 140. Then bulked to 183, now im at 174 after a light cut. Now clean bulking :)

Diet, rest, train - repeat . If all 3 of them are spot on, results will come.
