okay, until recently, I always struggled when someone asked me about what I do, I never thought it was interesting. That was until some of the comments and guides on here showed me that its not what you do, its how you say what you do.

In a nutshell, I a software developer. I own 50% of a company based in London and we design and implement bespoke marketing solutions for companies like Gap (we work with them when they do 30% off voucher campaigns).

Anyway, last night I sat down and started to look at the way I told this and come up with something that I could begin to use and eventually build on.

This is what i have so far.

"OK, this might sound a little complicated, but I'll try to explain.. Lets say you are going on holiday and you need a flight, most people tend to book it online nowadays. Well, they could be using a program that I have helped to make.. So...,in reality, next time you are jetting of to the sun, you can thank me for it!. I really enjoy it. Most people assume that programmers are all geeks, personally, I think it's a rewarding career _if_ you enjoy it.....Just like any job, if you truly enjoy what you do and are passionate about it, it's fun and that's what it's all about. It does have it's perks as well, a client of ours was organising a large event in London some time back and we helped with the marketing. Fantastic event, lots of glamerous people and a lot of the top DJ's were booked to play. The location was perfect, clapham common and the summer weather would mean everyone would be having a great time. I managed to talk the boss of the organiser into getting a group of friends onto the guest list, so we all got glammed up and spent the day on the common and the evening at the follow-up party, all with VIP access!"

From what I see, it's got some good points in there, along with some DHV.

From there I would assume the possibility of being asked _who_ I work for, this is my next work in progress. I want to be careful that I dont come across as arrogant when explaining that its my business. Just enough emphasis to show DHV. Will post that for comments as and when it's done.

I see other ways of transitioning with this, but will just have to field test it to see and work from there.

Thoughts for improvements or comments in general are welcomed. :)

Credit to ace_of_spades for the opening lines from this thread jobs-that-attract-vt11630.html. It worked, so I borrowed it. :) The rest is true and I am sure that over time I can expand this.

Well it seems like you are trying to qualify yourself and please don't put "people think software engineers are geeks" it implies that people have called you a geek before whiche isn't good. Apart from that it is great and i love the fact that you are really passionate about what you do.

Im the part owner of an english design company. Its really cool because I get to work with my big passion, public relations, just imagine that you have to inspire a feeling to milions of people just by showing them the right picture.

could i be a funny cunt and throw this in the pot?

ok ok ok. now im not saying to do this everytime. BUT when you do it? its funny as hell, confusses them to the point that they will URGE to know what you do. and add your mysterious factor massivly to the equation.

i like to make up my proffession.
for example;

HB - what do you do for work?
PUA - well to be honest i love my job, its not work for me at all :)
(or just get straight into it with your bullshit job)

i like these ones haha

PUA - im a lion tamer at the melbourne zoo
PUA - i train the dolphins at sea world
PUA - i run my own music label
PUA - im in my first year of atronaut training

you can just keep going

but the point is, unless she's dumber than jessica simpsons IQ results then she will realise your fooling around. BUT you give them lil hints to say that your joking. mean while keeping them locked to understanding if your for real or not.

it works like a charm, trust me :P

peace!

let me drop this one into the pot boys

why do you need to explain what you do right off the bat?
i find this is an perfect time to come of with a bit of mystery to your gamming.

now im not saying to do this everytime you game. but if works wonders when you use it

i like to invent my own proffession. meaning.... i will literally bullshit my way into saying something like

HB- what do you do for work
PUA - well, jessica... its my pleasure to say im the head dolphin trainer at sea world :)
or
- im one of 3 lion tamers at the melbourne zoo
or
- im currently in my first year of astronaut training. im here for the next week until i head back to the station for our flight simulation training

now unless the girls got the IQ of a potatoe then she will laugh and guess that your kidding right? and sure, you need to give them the idea that you ARE fooling, yet still leading them to believe other wise at the same time, my giving them descriptions of your false job

trust me, guys, it works wonders. you'll have them begging you to drop the game, and confess and its great to use some DHV's ect

peace!

haha Those are some good ones but i usually use these when a hb asks what i do.
PUA-'Im a professional athlete.' (this usually raises eyebrows because i really dont look like the athletic type.)
HB-really what sport do you play
PUA- Hopscotch
HB- What?
PUA- Yea hopscotch havent you ever seen it on espn? Really? Cause its a really fasty growing sport im actually training right now for a huge national tournament in berlin. All the worlds best hopscotch players will be there.
This usually gets them laughing cause they know your kidding and like said above it makes you more mysterious if you dont give them a straight answer.
or
PUA-I pack parachutes for skydivers.
HB-Really wow
PUA- yea Im pretty good I have about a 71% success rate
This will be the funny part and you can lead into a conversation about skydiving which almost everyone has an opinion on.

got all glammed up?

mystery say women are attracted to tribal leader type, if thats true sounding like one of her gf's might not turn on her instincts...

and this is just be my own personal thoughts, being the guy who can get VIP access i think puts more emphasis on how your not a VIP. She wants you to be the VIP.

passionate is a great word to use, it works just as well on women as it does in CVs.
