| Professor, I would do the following:
Walk into the class and sit next to her. As implied by your post, it seems that this would, if you don't already sit next to her all the time, it would not appear strange to her if you did so. Strike up a conversation with her by immediately talking about something cool you did over the weekend or the previous night, such as, "yeah, so I went rock climbing this weekend on private property and some crazy redneck chased us off with a shotgun" or "I saw this kickass movie this weekend that reminded me of you because..." The purpose of this is threefold: 1) it demonstrates confidence and initiative in you for immediately provided an interesting point of conversation, 2) it's amusing and entertaining, character qualities girls look for in every guy, and 3) it intuits her interests and hobbies, knowing which will give you ideas to feed on when asking her to hang out in the future. E.g. if you talk about rock climbing and she jumps in and says, "Oh! I love rock climbing!" or "I love that movie!" or whatever it is you talk about, it allows for her to open up to you in a much better way than simply you asking her, "So... what's your favorite movie." That's AFC and you're better than that. After you acquire segue into a topic of her interests and/or hobbies, suggest casually that you and she get together sometime and do that said interest or hobby. This works almost all of the time because you won't be sounding like a sex-crazed creep nor will you sound like you just want a platonic relationship. All the while, make physical contact with her like playful slaps on the shoulder or resting your hand on her arm while you work through the climax of the story you're telling her, and be very dynamic with your facial expressions. I'm a huge believer in dynamic facial expressions. If you convey through facial expressions a full spectrum of emotions, girls will love it and you will get great responses. Also, use her name often when you speak to her. Everyone's favorite word is their own name. Now, regarding her boyfriend, does he go to school with you guys or is he an LDR?
