Thought this might be interested to note about body language. It's a bit off topic but it's relevant to those interested in body language in general. Anyone else think he might have NPD? Of course no one really knows him personally, but what can we read into his body language and smooth speaking style in relation to NPD?

Does Barack Obama have Narcissistic Personality Disorder [NPD]?

Definition: NPD is rare in the general population (1-2%). A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

1. Has a grandiose sense of self-importance
2. Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
3. Believes that he or she is "special" and unique
4. Requires excessive admiration
5. Has a sense of entitlement
6. Is interpersonally exploitative
7. Lacks empathy
8. Is often envious of others or believes others are envious of him or her
9. Shows arrogant and haughty behaviors or attitudes

lol good point, I just wonder if he actually has it. I've heard reports that he is often alone when he's not the center of attention. They guy is so smooth with his body language it's scary.

btw, the reason John McCain doesn't move his arms very much is because he can't. Due to injuries sustained while being tortured for five years in Vietnam, he can't, for instance, move his arms above his head at all.

i mean, i definitely disagree..
He has a grandiose vision of what this country can be and uses his speech and body language to project those thoughts for his listeners/viewers to better understand.

That doesn't mean, by a long shot, that:
- he believes himself to be overly self-important,
- he's "interpersonally exploitative" (in fact, I hear he's a nice guy from a friend of mine who went to Harvard Law with him),
- he "lacks empathy" (have you read any of his books or heard him speak? empathizing with others is what he's all about  ),
- or that he "shows arrogant and haughty behaviors or attitudes".

I got to go to a fairly small Obama rally, and even got to shake his hand. I got the vibe that he is rather empathetic, and cared about what the people had to say. His body language was AMAZINGLY relaxed. He was comepletely in control of what he was doing and the effect it had.

LOL I don't even know where the heck you came up with the idea that he is narcissistic. Have you ever met someone that was narcissistic? They will stand out like a sore thumb when you do.

He just contains a lot of charisma.

true, but the difference is that people who are narcissistic take it to the extreme. When taking the Big 5 personality traits into consideration, most people tend to be in the middle. People who are narcissistic are extremely extroverted people. (Extroversion being a personality trait). A few examples are: Tom Cruz and Jerry Seinfeld.

I'd say that several of those are traits most PUAs come to posess, as you come to realise that you are different that the majority of people around you, you are aware of your potential for success, realise you are entitled to certain things in life, you KNOW that you are important and you are confident, which is often misconstrued as being arrogant.
