Valid point about making yourself happy. You could say it's a bit of a catch-22, making eachother unhappy but if one of you feels like that, there's probably something fundamentally wrong.

I stuck it out for a while with someone who didn't show enough interest and was probably displayed the effects of that to her. I had fun when we were apart and did my own thing. If you can do the same and include her and she's happy then you're doing alright.

Going further, do something she likes. If it doesn't really get a positive reaction then it's probably an issue you need to get to the bottom of.

Alongside all this, look after yourself and make sure you're happy, for which you'll have to be selfish and look outside of the relationship.

I actually agree with this. The person has to actually choose to feel something. Your actions or words may lead them to feeling a certain way but they ultimately chose to.
