Dude, chill. A guy did that to me and it worked like a charm. But I was also very interested in him. And no, I didn't find it awkward that out of nowhere, I got a text with a, "Hey, it's ----, I got your number from ____, and I'd like to take you out on a date." I found it flattering actually.
