I got this friend, one that can really be a douche by being alpha and always being in control of the conversation. If it ever deters away he becomes an asshole. All at the same time though, he introduces me to parties, dorm room chill times, chill people with chill bud, so it's a weird middle ground. Yes I can do it myself, but I'm not exactly as extroverted as he is when it comes to people. I'm just looking for ways to curve around his attitude. I'm tired of looking like the idiot, especially if I'm around someone I'm interested in.

Ex: talking with some friend and her boyfriend apparently broke up with her, as we talk my douchebaggery friend says "well (insert name here) doesn't have a girlfriend how about that?" It just made the whole room awkward and me embarrassed as fuck primarily due to the fact i had no idea how to counter him.

Any advice, tips, or references would help.

Your "friend" might be jealous of you and her talking and he is pulling some territorial pissing bullshit on you. Just cooly raise your eyebrow or shrug or shake your head and act like what he said was stupid because it was. Women think this behavior is immature, so if she sees that you also feel the same way, she will not be so easily pulled away from you. I have even done face palms if someone I know says dumb shit like this. The woman usually giggles and we can brush it off and continue talking. If he keeps saying shit like that just find a new friend.
