So I've just said "why you wanna know?" and smile or something like that. But I'd rather not let her know. We've dated for 3-4 years though. Not yet moved in.

Can I stay private without looking like I'm ashamed of how much I make or something?

4 years of being together and she has no "idea" how much you make? I'm pretty sure she can make a good guess. And what are you ashamed of ? I doubt you're going to tell her something thats going to surprise her. She sees your life style.

How do you go 4 years without knowing roughly how much each other makes? you observant pair ;)

Well she knows ROUGHLY how much I make (like minimum of 30, max of 50k/yr), but we both live at home still and I am currently in (and have been in) SAVING mode for getting a place. So...she really would have no idea...I have my own vehicle, she knows I have $$$ saved....but how would she know? We go out to eat a lot but that's about it.
