| So here I start my transformation from a complete AFC to a real player. Before beginning though, I had to do some background things.
1) Looks:I went and had a haircut I always wanted to have. My looks instantly changed for the better. And also bought myself a fake ear piercing.
2) The opener:There are a lot of people who walk their dogs. This is where I would look for target. I scanned the internet about various dogs found in my city (Mumbai). When I would find my target, I would approach and say, "Hey, it's a (dog's breed), right?" and then play a little with the dog (if it's friendly) and then say," I am thinking about having a dog. Is it really hard to raise a dog?"...It's an opinion opener and if this doesn't make them start talking, I don't know what will.
Day1
I was walking towards my office and a girl (not so cute) was walking her dog.
Things that I noticed:
1) She was alone.
2) The dog was a Labrador
3) I was approaching her from the back which meant that I shouldn't call her. She could easily ignore me from that angle. So I decided to let it go.
She was in my route so I had to overtake her to reach office. I was about to overtake her when she suddenly wheeled around and her dog gave a friendly bark to me.
"Hey, it's a Labrador, right" I said instinctively."Yes" she said with a polite smile. I didn't know why I said that but, whatever, if it's started, let's try to finish it. I patted the dog on the head. "I was thinking of buying a dog" I said. These words should have been a bit louder but they came out as a mumble. I knew I had committed two mistakes:1) the words were so soft that she probably didn't hear what I said and 2)I didn't look into her eyes while saying them.
When she didn't reply, I knew something had gone wrong.(I had missed the opener question that's what had gone wrong, I think). So, not knowing what to do, I started patting the dog's head again and at least the dog seemed happy. Then all of a sudden, she said "you shouldn't probably go near him." I jerked behind, "Does he bite?" the words came out of my mouth. "No" she said, nodding her head.
At this point, something snapped inside me. I just smiled goodbye to her and she smiled back(out of politeness, I guess) and then I turned around and walked away...
Things I learned:
1) I have to become a good conversationalist. I seldom talk to anyone. I have to make an effort to make conversations longer. So I'll pick people around me and start talking to them as much as I can.
2) I have a very long way to go.
Any feedbacks (positive or negative) will be appreciated. While giving negative feedbacks, please make it a point to say something constructive also. Thank you.
