The only way you would seem needy/clingy is if you are needy/clingy. Don't do that!

You need to be a fun guy that has friends, has buddies, has hobbies and has things going for him.

When you have good friends and hobbies that you are passionate about, and a good job that you are focused on, you won't need to worry about being clingy. You'll have to worry about making quality time for you and your girl. That's where you want to come from. I don't mean to constantly keep your girl on a string and keep blowing her off. But she needs to understand that she's important to you, but you have a list of very important things.

This means that you need to be mindful to keep up personal time for yourself, time for you to focus on work etc.
