Pretty simple and straight forward, but what would you guys define as confidence. I'm down for a broad interpretation of the word, or something more situationally specific, even anecdotal.

I think we would all like to be masters of confidence, yet sometimes it is easy to get lost on our path to it. But, in my humble opinion, if we had a definite "moving toward" state of being, it might simplify the process for many of us. I know, for me at least, that i can mimic such personality traits until they become hardwired with a fair bit of ease, and i really don't even think that is unique to me or people like me, i think we all have that. So with a clear A and B, i think we could make the most important aspect of the game come around a bit more quickly.

Even if you don't agree with this being used as a methodology for how to get confident, i would definitely appreciate some input for myself so thank you in advance friends.

Confidence is the absence of fear and the feeling of certainty that a particular action x will have a positive result y.

Thus, people around here give out advice to be outcome dependent and instead enjoy the process. If you enjoy a certain action x and don't care about the outcome y you'll tend to appear confident and fearless even when you're not. Eventually, you develop skill which naturally leads to true confidence as your results become more certain and positive.

The ability to believe in yourself and act on that belief without needing others' approval. That could also be labeled "psychopathy," though.

@Hellhound,

I think that hits it right on. Thank you.

@Cyclone

I would agree with that as well, except for the psychopath part. The whole dsm v table with those personality disorders is now coming under heavy scrutiny, as they are really just generalizations of common personalities within our population. From what I understand, a simple change in beliefs can move an individual from a psychopath to a budha, and so many are starting to disregard the dsm table as anything more than categorization. But... if you like the idea of being a cold hearted, remorseless seducer who views women as targets to be spun into his web, definitely go for it. I've done it before and it has gotten me quite a ton of poon.

Confidence is not the absence of fear. Rather, it's the embracing FEAR as your friend, acknowledging and continuing in spite of it.

Not possible seeing as there are organic structural brain anomalies found common in the brains of psychopaths/sociopaths. It is also true that the brains of people who meditate do exhibit structural changes, however their brains, particularly the corpus colosseum and hemispheric functioning is more developed and balanced than the 'norm'. You cannot teach a psychopath empathy, for example, BUT they can learn how to feign empathy (often through behavioural interventions and strategies).

There is truth that a lot of the character traits present in most personality disorders are normative - often psychopathology will occur when one, or a cluster of those traits are more exaggerated in an individual.

I don't believe in having a certain word. Only because i have impulses that I usually indulge in. There is always that little voice that creeps into your mind and it is your job to act and not let the voice get any louder. That is the way i see it. I enjoy every minute.

Words can be quite limiting.

Right, sometimes, it's better left unexplained. Like when you get that gut feeling, just act on it and see what happens!

Yeap. If more people trusted their instincts rather than go into the minutiae of over-thinking they'd make healthier decisions.
