I write poetry as a hobby and sometimes when im texting or talking to women I find myself using romantic Shakespearean language. I'll say things like "ill call upon thee whence the time draws near". Nothing too fancy but just a little bit of embellished English, peppered in with some sarcasm. Now my question is if anyone has had experience witheeither speaking this way or using Shakespeare lines as openers or anything of that nature. What works/ doesn't work because I'm thinking about diving into his sonnets and memorizing them to use in my arsenal. Just wondering if anyone had past experience or thoughts on the subject. And BTW I'm from the Chicago area and most people dont know how to speak eloquently so my whole angle is like a playful shock value type deal.

Don't do sonnets... Just don't. It's AFC. If you're going to use it do it joking around and nothing more. Women cringe at this kind of shit and so do guys with good reason: This isn't the movies.

Why? Why would you do that? This is a very stupid tactic that will backfire. I guarantee you that with the right delivery, it can be fun for like 5 seconds, but after that it will be just annoying and boring... unless the girl is really into Shakespeare, in which case, it might impress her. Good luck on that one, lol.

The whole idea is the sarcasm and irony. Im not trying to adopt old english as my primary language. I'll try it out and let you guys know if it works or not. And ghetto language with girls from the ghetto seems to work for the same reason. Irony. But yea like I said, haven't really tried it at all. Thanks for the replies guys. I'll update everybody whether it fails or not.

Canned material. Routine. Junk.

If you are good at speaking, then just speak normally. Don't recite anything, but make references and jokes you would make among your nerd friends.

Yesterday at starbucks a girl told the clerk that "she was still thinking [about her order]". I popped up and opened with "While I don't want to protract your deliberation... I saw you and wanted to say 'hi'.... so... 'hi'". I thought of that in the 3 steps from me to her. I've never used anything canned because I have a harder time remembering material than speaking on the fly. That IS how I talk, and it's normal and natural to me. Advice being, if you have to think about it, when you will say it, and recite it... it's lame. IMHO. Just talk and it will sound fine.

I dont plan on reciting anything. I'm using this for a joke or an icebreaker or whatever witty thing is appropriate. But yea like you just explained, just like that except instead of trying to sound like an astrophysicist im talking about using old poetic language.

I think your line was funny and cute. My opinion is that if every now and then you feel naturally inclined to drop a line like that you should do it. As long as it is not something you have been practicing it should be well received. Maybe use them in a funny way at first until you find out if your girl is the romantic type who loves poetry.
