Buying a girl a drink is fine, as others have said.
Don't buy a girl a drink if she asks you. Usually if a girl asks me to buy her a drink, I ask her to buy me a drink. That sorta shifts the ball from the girl saying, "To even talk to me, you must placate me", to you saying, "Um, do you know who I am? You should be buying ME a drink, girl."
Attraction usually spikes a bit when you do that. Sometimes you'll get a shit test, like, "Why should I buy you a drink?" - to this I would respond with either, "Why should I buy YOU a drink?" in an amused, I'm better than you way, or possibly just point to yourself in an amused and arrogant way, like, "What? Me? Are you crazy girl?"
You'd be shocked how often girls will buy you drinks. Frequently I don't even have to buy my own drinks at the bar.
Good advice.
Another possible thing to say i she asks you to buy her a drink, respond with something like "Tell me three things about you other than your looks that will make me want to buy you a drink..."
This way you are turning it from her saying "hey do this for me" to you saying "do this for me, prove yourself to me". And this works on any little request. Sometimes all you need to do is act resilient and say "I'm going to need convincing". It automatically turns her into the mode of "I need to impress this guy, he's not madly in love with me".
