I´ve been doing artial since I was 6, now I´m almost 23 all I can say is that it helps you to deal with tension specially if you join tourments. That is something you can take for life, girls, job interviews whatever. Also in good clubs you get a group of friends, at least should get, and many times these teams hang out a lot togheter so can provide you some social proof. When doing abroad studies my judo team was like my family for everything so I strongly encourage you to join a team. Example, there is a training camp in my city now in Brazil and I´m taking the guys from Chile to have a snack down town and see some girls cause they are the last 20 days seeing dudes in the gym :p

You can train with a faceguard, or you could do a grappling sport like judo or jiujitsu.

Martial arts may well help with confidence but it's unlikely to help you with confidence with women (if that's the point). I got my black belt when I was about 20 (now 34) and it made jack shit difference to my confidence with women. That only ever sorted itself out when I realised that women didn't belong on a pedestle and that actually they were lucky if I was interested in them.

In other words I had to develop my inner game and tackle the bullshit sexual / social stereotypes that I took as reality, and exchange them for a whole new reality where having fun is the prize in what is nothing more than a big game for grown ups :D

BTW I've known a whole lot of black belts and while they may be pretty confident in their physical fitness and fighting prowess, a good proportion of them are AFCs when it comes to HBs - think about it - you spend 5 evenings a week training, when do you actually take the time to learn to converse with the opposite sex?!

Judo and jiujitsu havean enormous chance someone will hit your nose with head, knee or something like that they are extremely contactr sports like wrestling. I would try some variant of wushu not taking emphasys in combat, or aikido.

I enjoy getting a black eye when boxing or vale tudo. Gives me something to talk about. Plus after a win you get that surge of adrenaline and confidence.

The only thing i hate is cauliflower ear. I need to get my ear drained shortly.

man please don´t be ingenuous and believe that judo or wrestling are safe concerning nose shocks, I would point even some karate styles as safer. in some of them you cant hit the face.

The faceguard is a great idea ( although weird looking ) But i agree with the above poster.I think BJJ would put heaps more shoke on the nose then karate. But i like bjjso i will start but with a faceguard

I got my nose broken in Taekwondo :)

But only because I was an idiot and underestimated my opponent.

Martial Arts, in my opinion, give you an edge just like PU does. You know that feeling when you know something that most people around you dont?

You can try something like Image
But people will mock a lot on you. And it is not allowed in competitions afaik.
