It is not a problem for me to talk to male SPAM and befriend them. But it is difficult to talk to female SPAM. Basically they are quite cautious and defensive, they are not open to talk or chat. We sometimes briefly stumble upon each other, but we don't talk to each other. I tried a couple times, they just acted coldly. What's your idea?

That would be a good place to start... If not, you could organise a party and invite the roommates (girls and guys) thus becoming the alpha male and "connector" of this environment where you live...

It's uncomfortable for you = it's uncomfortable for them. Next time, "pretend" they are one of your male buddies and get in to a very familiar-type of convo just like you would with one of them. Gotta start somewhere and this can be a good place to start.
