Hi Urbanite,
funny that you mentioned singles event. A month ago i went to such kind of event for the first time. And let me tell you this: if you know the PUA-stuff, you are already way ahead of the rest.
The most common mistake guys make during such events, is that they take it too serious. They don't flirt/neg/game, they are exchanging information (i.e. age, profession, hometown, and all the other boring shit). The girls are bored of this and you will not distinguish yourself from the rest.
When i went to the event, I was playful/teasing and a bit negging (not too much, the setting is a bit different than clubs). Everybody at the events knows that everybody is looking, so play with this fact. Don't focus on exchanging info, but focus on creating a connection/feeling with the girl that she wants to meet you again.
My experiences are that the girls here are more open for your game. If you enter the venue, make sure people notice you. Make them laugh, smile, eye contact.
Opening sets is so easy: you just join the group and introduce yourself and play the game.
How to open:
- "do I need to rescue you?' (when the girl is already talking to an AFC)
- "ahhh, they all want me. Am i safe here with you? '
- 'Hey! Yes i know, i am bit underdressed

Why do people take this so seriously?
- 'How often do you go to such events? [wait for her answer and her question back]. Me? daily
