I want to ask my girlfriend a question the answer to which is not very significant, but I would choose to know. She may not feel like answering for a couple of reasons. The foremost, she is playful, so she might mislead for the fun of it.

I want to treat this case as an experiment and put her in the right mindset before I ask.

My guess is that she would need to feel trust towards me, that it is okay to tell me, stop being playful for a while and maybe also get a little more serious than usual.

Is it a valid reasoning? How to elicit those states?

If her son told her what I plan for Christmas.

I need to see the extent to which I can trust him.
