I was at this party yesterday, wasn't doing too great, but I was plowing through it.
It was a multiple level venue so I thought I'd try my luck upstairs. When I'm up the stairs I saw it was crowded as hell and I couldn't walk from the stairs. This cute girl is standing in front of me, neither of us said a word but we just stared eachother down for a minute or so.

Now I usually have a hard time creating attraction like this, but it was on!
I asked here where she was going
Her: Nowhere. (like all giggling and stuff)
I decided to introduce myself: I'm Olivier!
Somehow attraction just dropped, she was like, well got to get back to my friends now and walked off.

What would you have done in this situation? Did introducing kill the vibe?

Next time dont stand there for a minute, just go ahead and talk to her.
That shows that you have confidence and girls love confidence.

You took a bit too long, or you have a really unattractive voice (kidding), or most likely, you may have simply misread her attraction. You didn't do anything wrong other than waiting too long.

Waiting too long and being too forward giving her your name. Comes across as needy.

You should have asked for her name first and waited for her to ask you yours. Remember, it's not important to you that she knows your name or not, you don't care, you're just making small talk. If/when she asks ask her what kind of a name would suit you before giving your name. This gets her involved and interested in the conversation. If the initial attraction is there the mystery surrounding your name and the fun of making her work for something from you will keep her hooked. Try it.

Also, you interviewed her. You flat out asked where she was going just by having seen her and stared at her for a minute. Don't do that, escalate the opener while being interesting.

She wanted to go somewhere.

Depending on the circumstances, if you give your name at the start of an interaction, it sometimes makes you look less alpha.

From your interaction, the part where you introduced yourself is the killer. Think about it through here perspective, lots of same old boring guys introducing themselves that end up going no where. so she is categorizing you as those other guys you might have been hit on. Be different. Go the unusual rout in your interaction. For me, I never introduce myself to a girl; they're introducing to you is better and IOI.
