Didn't really know where to post this one but it happened to me once and I was looking for advice on how to handle it: I was talking to a girl in the queue for a club and (I think) doing pretty well. Next minute another guy cuts in front of me putting himself between me and her. I made some C & F comment about him (can't quite remember what it was cause it was a while back) so he turned and became physically aggressive with me. Not quite pushing but buffing himself up and the like. Now the guy was a good bit taller than me and much bigger built so at the time I just kinda backed down but I'm wondering if there's anything I could have done to still get this girl without getting my ass kicked or if I should have just given up?

you probably did the smart thing by backing off, i myself am a little guy and therefore i like to have many friends with me, and big friends at that. remember theres safety in numbers

Ok... I´ll do a really nerdy thing and post what the behavioural biologists say on this topic.
When two animals (or humans) compete for the same resource (female in this case) this is the way it goes.
1. Showoff, try to look bigger and stronger
2. Showoff in motion, try to walk tall, moving around to show your superiority
3. Vocal challenge, try to be louder or intimidate using your voice
4. Physical matching of strength, pushing, etc.
5. Combat, fistfight or such...

I normally make myself scarce around point 4
This is a biological pattern and made to conserve energy, nobody gains anything by fighting if the winner is obvious at an earlier stage of the conflict.

Please do not get into any fights, some people go from 1 to 5 in mere seconds.

You just walked away from the girl you were gaming? That guy basically showed you up. Learn how to cut people down in a matter of seconds by depicting small things about them and pointing them out to the girl like. Something obvious to me would have been
'Do you know this guy? What a dick'
You have to neutralize as quickly as possible.
