This sounds like your first experience with peacock-ing. It can be a bit of a shocker if you're not used to it. Here's the general rule I like to follow if I'm doing something out of the ordinary or engaging in peacock-ing:
Have a dedicated follow-through for each item!
Sounds simple enough, and it actually is much easier than you think. With your example, all you would need is a story about why you have that hat and BAM!, you're building rapport with a neutral topic and setting the stage for patterning.
As for the HB9, you could have had quite a lot of fun with her. When you noticed that she was dancing and trying to get your attention, you should have jumped in immediately. But, instead of dancing and doing what every other guy tried before you, you should have asked her to try on your hat.
Then, when she's got it on, take a step back, squint a little, and then take it off like you changed your mind. You can even throw in a neg, CF line, or even something simple like "I like it better on me".
This teases her a little bit, demonstrates a little value because you're not like everyone else, and it gives you the perfect set up to tell your story about the hat from earlier.
Long story short. When peacock-ing, always prepare a line, routine, or pattern that's dedicated to handle all the extra attention you're bound to receive. Hope this helps
Thanks! great advice will remember this for next time!
