This happens to me all the time. One of my friends or family will tell a story about something that really wasn't that captivating in reality, but they talk in a way that gets the whole room reacting to their story.

I on the otherhand may have a truly interesting thing that happens to me, and when I tell my story in front of people, no one gives a fuck. I've tried different techniqes like tone of voice, pausing, using my hands etc., but nothing has gotten a reaction out of people.

Is it just a talent? I really wanna know how to be good at this.

Thanks, Ollie B.

Express how you felt at that moment like you're experiencing it while talking about it.
Use powerful (but not too much) gestures, reactions like they were real and all that stuff - just express actual emotion.

Timing pauses between critical events in a story will add suspense and will pull them into the story.
It's not just about using pauses, tonality, and body language, but it's about the timing of all 3 aspects.

I read in the book Introducing NLP by Joseph O'Connor and John Seymour that the structure of communication is as follows:

55% Body Language
38% Voice Tonality
7% Words

Remember this the next time you tell a story and focus more on how you tell the story rather than the story that is actually being told itself.

Hope this helped.

This actually works, and then just put on some keywords in your heard. You won't run out of storys quick.

yes you dont even have to write your complete stories to the letter just register keyword

1. girl on the lake
2. bacteria
3. bubblegum
4. tony award

etc

later on you learn to weave several stories together

and later on you dont even have to bother with writing stories down, your brain learn to remember them automaticaly because you give your mind the direction now and your mind now knows it is important and your powerful minds starts to weave them in most suitable ways..

Also, one of the great storyteling tehniques is to stop a story right before the end or in the middle and start another one, then stop the other one and start the third one...etc and similar let your imagination run away with you...

Another thing that will propel you to unimaginable heights is PRACTICE...use every oppportunity to practice...if you have a younger sister or brother sit him in front of you and tell him what happened to you today...while waiting in the line in the bank start converstaion with the stranger and tell hima short story...talk to cashiers, waiter people in the bus... talk to your dog or cat(actualy i remember ross jefries telling the story about doing this to his cat , except if that was one of his metaphors hehe  )..
of course you dont have to practice talking to your cat but find your unique ways to practice the skill daily ...its best when you dont have to dedicate some special time to do this but to do it simultaneously while doing something through the course of your day

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE...become practicing machine  actualy practice is key to being good at anything...

Storytelling tip for today, find your passions and talk about them!Everything else is just a commentary.... theres no way people wont listenting when you speak up about what you really really really care!

if you talk on something you are passionate about...thats all that you'll ever need... you dont need no fucking tehniques! its the only tehnique you need!

and keep practicing and keep practicing...

on the other hand once in a while stop...and forget about it...just forget about it...and dont care...as paradoxically as it seems you need both of these for you to master it...
