Not sure if its because I read sooo much information and became too engrossed in it all. Any tips for finding that initial confidence that lines will work and eagerness to open, akin to when you've just read the game for the first time?

You have to remember what exactly made you that efficient and effective. Take some time to reflect. It may not come in twenty minutes but figure out what patterns you took and what worked. You will understand yourself better and with that comes the results. In PUA terms it is called Inner game. Once you have inner game down, it gets easier from there.
