Field Report – Mall Day Game : Openers

Today I was at the mall with one of my buddies. I took the opportunity to try out a few of the openers that I wanted to try. The first one I tried was while I was at a book store. I did the “Dating for Dummies” opener/routine. I was very nervous to try it but it actually went very well. She was laughing and blushing and obviously enjoying the interaction. I didn’t end up number-closing her, though, because she said she had a boyfriend. I would still say, based on the experience, that the opener was still a success.

Next there was another girl and I used one of my “Solve a debate” openers. Again, it went very well but in the end she had a boyfriend. However, later when we were walking past her again we made eye contact so I smiled and waved and she gave me a wink. I would also consider this interaction as a success, as far as openers go.

Finally, the third girl I approached actually ended smoothly. I used an opener I read about and sounds strange but works:

Smiley: Hey, are you the type of girl that enjoys the traditional dinner/movie date or do you prefer something more nonconventional like a unicorn ride?
HB8: (laughing) Like a what?
Smiley: A unicorn ride.
HB8: Hmm well I do enjoy dinner and a movie, but the unicorn one sounds good. The unicorn. Well actually, I’m kinda old fashioned so I would prefer a horse and buggy riding off into the sun set.
Smiley: Well that’s lucky, because I actually know a guy who can set that up.
HB8: Oh, what does this guy look like?

I thought this was kind of a strange question….

Smiley: I don’t know…umm he wears a hat…a fedora.
HB8: Is he in this store? (she was a worker in one of the mall stores, btw)

This is when I realized she thought I was asking for someone else. That the guy who “could set it up” was just too afraid to approach her and had sent me in.

Smiley: No (laughing) I’m the one asking you out on a date. I just happen to know a guy who can set that date up.
HB8: Oohh haha okay.
Smiley: Yeah so you should totally give me your number and I’ll work on getting it set up.
HB8: Okay, why not.

So I got the number-close, told her I would text her in a minute so she could save my number, we hugged, and I left. I texted her using a line that Style used in “The Game”:

Smiley 7:22PM: This is a VIP #, store with care. –Smiley
HB8 7:25PM: lol okay
HB8 7:35PM: So what made you aske me out on a date
Smiley 7:39PM: I was just walking by and saw you and you’re cute so I wanted to meet you

So then we continued texting, blah blah blah. Bottom line is I was trying out a couple of openers that I had never used (not counting the debate one, I’ve used that) and was seeing how well they would work out. Even though I only got the one number-close, I feel that all 3 interactions were successful. Plus, I think I’m finally getting over Approach Anxiety. I was very nervous for all 3 but I was able to control my nervousness each time. It really does get easier the more you do it. I’m hoping this can serve as a bit of an example for my fellow newbies in the game; just do it.

Thanks, Genius! I am very enthusiastic about this because I really do want to improve myself. I have always been shy around girls and that's starting to change, which proves to me that stuff really does work if you actually do it.
