It seems like every one of my conversations die out because I go into interview mode, but if I don't go into interview mode at least the first few messages I'll have no idea what we have in common. Most girls my age don't say much in there profile besides I'm outgoing and like a man who's a man. Anyway where did I go wrong in this message?

Me: Were having a road trip, where are we going?

Her: The beach of course!;)

Me: Haha I like your style, what's your favorite beach to go to?

Her: Any beach! My heart belongs at the ocean!

Me: Santa Monica it is, that's my favorite beach. Have you ever been?

Her: No actually I haven't!:/

Me: What!? your missin out, especially if you love beaches. Btw what nationality are you?

Her: Italian:)

I haven't messaged her back because I have no where to go with that message besides another question, this happens to me all the time, where am I going wrong?

As a general tip, I would advise, if you want to know something, to use statements instead of questions. For example, you could say "I think my favourite ice cream flavour is Strawberries" instead of asking "What's your favourite ice cream flavour?". The reason for this is that when people just hang out, they don't bombard each other with questions, they just make statements to which other people respond. It helps establish a relaxed climate and takes away the interview vibe.

As to where you're going wrong, well. You can only work with what a girl is giving you, but the above should answer your question. You need to get her interest first, then you can get to know about her, girls on dating sites get a stupid amount of messages, so they're not going to spend 3 paragraphs answering your questions if you're not interesting.

Be poetic, be funny, be outgoing. And always remember that online dating is more like trapping than hunting. Personally, I don't message girls who don't have enough material on their profile, because my first message will usually have a lot of small jokes based on her profile.

PS: Bad grammar can be a huge turn off for some chicks in online dating. This includes not using apostrophes properly.

Interview mode sucks. I'd go fortune teller mode. Don't ask her stuff, instead assume stuff and play with it.
Her name for instance, don't ask for it. Just say something like this:
"So, i'm getting a Maria kinda vibe but personally I think [insert name] fits you better.
I bet your awesome at giant wave surfing on a little bodyboard."
