So here is the background on the girl.
This past summer, my roommate's gf dumped him. A few weeks later, we went out with some friends and were introduced this girl. My roommate hit it off with her, and they hung out together a lot. He ended up getting back with his gf and broke it off with this girl.
Well, later this girl and I started hanging out. We went out a few times, just casual. She flirts with me, we invite each other to things, I have met a lot of her friends and befriended them as well, we text each other all the time, I make her laugh, and we always have a solid conversation (no dull moments)
We have been hanging out for a few months now, so I decided last night I said screw it and asked her out on a real, proper date.
She turned me down. She said it was because if we started dating, she would be over at my place and eventually run into my roommate. She said this is like the 4th time this has happened, where she has been a rebound and thought she was going to date the guys, but they go back to their ex-girlfriends, and it has crushed her.
I know this may be a lost cause, but I have to try one more thing
So for the time being, I am freezing her out. She has been texting me since last night, and I am just ignoring her. What do you guys think I should do? I am really into this girl, first one I have really liked since I broke it off with my ex after dating her for 4 years.

If I was you, I would just go after the smash. Once you smash, it's easier to make her do what you like, and if it's a relationship, well lead it to that direction. So go after the smash and quit doing anything "proper" as from experience anything "proper" kills attraction. You can do all the "proper" things you want after you smash. Good luck.

I'd point out that she's not a rebound to you, she's a cool chick that deserves a cool guy. I'd say something like "I figured as smart as we are we could figure out ways to avoid uncomfortable situations like that, but if you don't think so, I guess it's best. Then throw in a friendly neg like "I'm sorry, I thought your problem solving skills were as robust as mine."

If she shows interest and you get a desirable response, make sure to point out that you hope she someday can live her life without worrying about what her exes think about her, etc.
