I don't recommend doing it. Given that it's a fancy dress party, suit up. If you don't already know how to properly tie a tie, find out. Google 'windsor knot'. Accessorize with a matching pocket square and notice how many compliments you'll be receiving. Christmas parties usually have mistletoe hanging up somewhere, and if you're good enough, you can use that to open as well. I used to subtly moves girls under it during conversation and then casually bring up that they were standing underneath it. Had two ways to go with it. Either told them to move or one of the creepers here was going to notice and try and make out, or that if they didn't move someone was going to insist we pose and kiss for a picture. Worked fairly well.

I suggest getting a girl to go tie/pocket square shopping with you. I took one of my best friends tie shopping, let her pick out my tie for our holiday party, and I get compliments on it every time I wear it. My recommendation is go with something relatively simple, but different enough that it will still get noticed.

It's like the dick-in-a-box for a Halloween costume. Not exactly classy. But it is funny.
