Today I woke up, late as hell, with nothing planned for the day except work later tonight. My body is screaming, I've punished it with a combined 12 hours in 3 days at the gym. I want to go back, but it's best if I rest. So here I sit, partially immobilized, slightly in pain, and extremely hungry. Something is different with me lately. I'm at a very confusing, complex, emotional, and turbulent time in my life. Yet, I'm the happiest, healthiest, and most motivated I've ever been. I woke up today, ecstatic to just be alive and well. I rolled out of bed, cleared my floor, put down my yoga mat, and laid in 'Child's Pose' for about 10 minutes after lighting an incense and candle. I quietly collected my thoughts, ideas, and other mental images for the day. I finished off by stretching in a few other poses, mostly spine extensions for my (regularly) stiff back and legs. I feel great.

What is this all about? What is my point?

Well, the idea is that if you can find great excitement and gratitude for all the little things in your life, the simple things. Like being healthy, active, smart, and alive! Then that same perspective will begin to, and eventually be reflected completely in all of your other affairs (social, scholastic, work, sex, etc). Sure, things are going exactly the way I want them to with my girlfriend, or my job, hell my fucking license is suspended. But you know what? I'm still plowing through, one day at a time, and I wouldn't want it any other way. All the obstacles in my path keep me on my toes, alert, and at the TOP OF MY MOTHERFUCKING GAME. Instead of looking at failure, roadblocks, etc as negative entities in your life, look at them as tests. Things to conquer.

I don't have a license for instance, it's suspended. My solution, I bike to work, bike to the gym, bike to the grocery store, bike to the bus (to get to school). What happens? 3 months later I'm magically 10 lbs. lighter, and ripped up because it was all fat loss and dramatic muscle gain. I also have much more energy. All of this seems to have sparked an exponential growth in my interest in physical fitness and well-being. It would appear that tackling that simple roadblock had several advantageous (unexpected) outcomes.

That serves as but one example of something that could have been seen as a failure, or roadblock, but instead was handled with intellect and a positive attitude. And look, great things came of it, sure I'd probably rather drive, but hell, all you suckas get ripped off paying for gas!

I'm gonna sum up with this rant with a quote from the semi-helpful, T.V. douche-bag, Dr. Phil.

"GET EXCITED ABOUT YOUR LIFE, MOTHERFUCKER!" (slightly edited by Meth)

PEACE. LOVE. PROSPERITY.
METH THE MAGNIFICENT.

Curious... just what eastern philosophies are you into meth? ... assuming of course your into eastern phil... maybe your into integralism? or mysticism? either which way, it would seem you've been exposed to something with a strong spiritual impact... perhaps a near death experience? I apologize for the selfish request to satisfy the curiosity.

lol... it feels weird for me to you call you by the name of the most infamous drug in Hawaii. It has such a strong connotation for me that runs opposite of the message I get from your posts... Maybe you can enlighten me on this one?

Meth, I work out at night so after three hours I can just drink my protein shake and pass out for 7 or 8 hours.

But yeah, life is getting interesting, and it's only been a few days into 2008 :D

Meth the human body has to rest at times between workouts, in order for it to grow. If we push the body too hard, which I have done with mine before, we just end up tearing the muscle fibers down that we've worked so hard to build.

I agree with meth that exercise is INCREDIBLY important. Honestly, after not sticking to a workout plan at all for about 3 weeks i feel like SHIT. When I go back for winter break I went from working out 2 hours a day to 10-15 minutes and its had a huge impact on me physically and psychologically. My advice, make exercise a priority in your life, or you will end up sleeping away 10-11 hours a day like me. This post was very helpful thanks a lot meth.

Erin, I must say, I am impressed by your intuition.

I consider myself a bit of a cherry picker, you could formally deem me an "eclectic pagan" I take what I want from what I like, and stray away from indoctrinating myself into any school of thought. Though I do take a great deal of my worldview from Taoist, Buddhist, and other Eastern spiritualities, I try not to limit myself one side of the spectrum. Because as much as I enjoy Eastern spirituality, science, and thought, I too love the rationality and rigidity of Western religion and science. Being a philosophy major in college opened me up to a world of diversity which I thoroughly enjoy.

Anyway, back to your extremely precise guess, yes I was spared for some odd reason a few months back in a fatal car accident. It had an indescribable impact on my life, and sent me on a dramatically new path, shedding light on a wonderful world (and life) I had neglected, abused, and greatly under-appreciated. So yes, you are absolutely correct. And once again, very impressive.

Methuselah is a biblical character, the father of moses, who was more so mentioned in the books that people took out of the bible. Legend has it he lived 980+ years, he is often referred to as "the wisest of men". You can call me Ian if you'd like, most of the people who know me well do the same.

And yourself? A yogi? An ex-stripper? An intellect? Beauty and brains it appears, a rarity indeed. Any other interesting background information I should know? :D

Yeah man, 3 hours goes by really fast for me. Especially if you are working out at a place with a large, functional facility. I begin with a light stretch, a bike ride there, some basketball and/or raquetball, move into some martial arts, weightlifting, pilates, plyo/isometrics, calesthetics, then cool down with some soothing yoga and stretching. (Leaving certain exercises and activities out on certain days to allow for resting and optimum recovery)

Absolutely. I'm fully aware of my limits and have carefully constructed a physical fitness routine that is designed to best suit my goals, while allowing my body ample time to rest and recover. I've been there before as well, fractured my clavicle in high school pushing myself to hard. Lesson learned.

right back at you.... dito. except my near death experience was self inflicted... lol, and my stripper name was... and in a way still is... celeste.

As for background... let's just say that I'm working on through study and strategy an idea that could get a lot of people to never get to the point that I did... let's say... not even close to that point.... let's say the opposite. It's kind of uh, important for me? ... wow, this is getting personal and I haven't even touched the surface.. let's pretend I never wrote this ok?

Have you ever read Ken Wilber or Osho?

that one is rather dense, but you can handle it if you majored in Phil

There's another easier to read overview of the whole concept called "Integral Vision" which spoiled me... now it's hard for me to get into his other works cause that one was so easy!... it had lots of pictures lol :D

That shit was easy to see man, I assume for anyone, no training necessary. Uh, no offense BTW.

I couldnt help but notice how that saying you were into yoga got a female instantly interested in you. Hmmmmm.
