Best advice I ever got, read, rage, write, repeat...
1) take you time and read through some of the more experienced members of this forum. Read the game, and read anything that interests you about game.
2) get out there and sarge as much as you can - this will be the best experience you can get.
3) write down thoughts and notes on what happened and learn from your successes and mistake
4) do it all again...
