Alright, I ask this question to you fine folks because obviously I've been called a friend by a girl I've been gaming. I'm not really looking to be comforted here or anything, there are plenty more of them out there and available. A little background: the situation I'm in and I'm describing isn't one where I'm just looking to lay this chick and move on. I actually for some reason think she's pretty cool and want her to stick around for a while.

Basically if a girl you like says you are her friend, but doesn't say it like "just a friend" is that the death sentence? A lot of females seem to think that being some sort friends before building a relationship is a good thing. Does that mean that if she's showing the signs of being physically attracted and giving all the IOIs in the book while not showing typical friendzone behavior that when she says "friend" she's trying to compliment you even though that word makes us want to slit our own wrists?

My gut instinct is that her saying that doesn't mean "let's just be friends" but is her way of trying to compliment me, which she likes to do often. But I'm too close to the situation so it's nice to hear from some other people who are knowledgable.

Good point. I doubt she said to you "you are my friend" she probably just introduced you to something saying "this is my friend ____" That's good if she is introducing you. to her friends. That's step 1. Step 2 start hanging out with her more and build some sexual tension and comfort.
