She was at university and so I asked what was studying and she told me it was PR. Now given that this was my first time out I lost a golden opportunity to NEG and just talked more about her course. I'm not gonna beat myself up about this but rather learn as much as I can from it and be better prepared next time.
So my questions is ... is "trumping" an effective way to NEG e.g. girl says "PR" and I say "cool, I know someone who is a real PR guru an runs their own company" (true to a point).
A more classic NEG would be I guess to say "shame - I get really turned on by lady scientists, but hey you always do a MSc later right ?" or whatever, but my "cocky/funny" ability is pretty much zero at the moment it wouldnt be a natural thing for me to say.

They can be basically the same thing if used in certain ways. I like to use the cocky funny kinda negs that are more playful. I stray away from anything that can be interpreted as offensive.

The first one makes you sound like you're trying to impress her by sounding superior and is a turn off. The second one would work if you use the right presentation, but if you aren't cocky/funny enough about it, you're gonna sound as bad as the guy that asks if it hurt when she fell from heaven. _________________ "The 'Brick Walls' are there to allow you to prove how badly you want something!" ~ Randy Pausch
