I could never grow a very good beard, so I always shaved, but I felt that using a razor made me look too baby faced and young, so I switched to using a beard trimmer without a guard in order to keep the stubble and the more grizzled look. Maximizing my maturity and distinction has really given me an edge over other younger immature guys, so I kept it this way for a while, but now I'm trying to grow a goatee without a mustache and so far it's looking good, but I've yet to go out with it, so I'm not sure what kind of effect it will have on people yet.

Do any of you keep beards? Styled ones, or full beards? Smooth shaven, or stuble?

i think there are certain times and occasions for me when i choose clean shave or stubble

when its something formal or a real date, i go clean shave, other wise i leave the stubble, but i always get rid of the mustache

I disagree with Ezo's mentality there because I perfer my avatar to BE me, and just improve myself.

Anyway on topic now. I find that a clean shave DOES NOT WORK I simply look too young so I tend to just go for shave styles when I'm REALLY peackocking. Or just a small 0,5 cm goatie don't know if its a goatie. However mostly I just walk around looking like I havn't shaved for 3-5 days. It does depend on the type of beard you have though. Most eastern people have a hard time growing real beards. So for them it's best to shave. However if your a bit more northern just having a bit of an ''I havn't shaved for some days'' beard really suits you. Don't let it get too long though. and do shave a bit to make it look like you care about your hygene.

I keep my goatee closely trimmed, maybe 1/8" (estimation). One reason is that I always used to nick my chin and I looked like a moron, another is that, as previously stated, it adds to your avatar. I don't like the way that I look with a full beard (I can do that in about a week if I want...but it looks rediculous on me). Also, I HATE the way that those chin-strap type beards look, on anyone, I just think of:

I look great with the 3-5 day stubble thing like 3 hands was talking about. I still keep a day stubble all over my face by using the beard trimmer, but I'm seeing if a goatee suits me, because I honestly don't know. I think it's gonna be interesting because I think it makes me look a bit more devious and I used to get told that I was "too nice" a lot when I did a clean shave.

When I clean shaved my old one-itis would always tell me how nice I was, but last time I saw her I had like 3 days stubble, but otherwise very well groomed and she responded quite well. Always get rid of the mustache though, ick!

All I know is, ever since Tom Brady grew a beard, he started winning Super Bowls and dating super models.

personally i have a full goat.... mustache and all.... when i am clean shaven.... i look like i am 12.... lol my ex wife was 4 years my senior.... and when i was clean shaven.... i looked like i was in hs beside her..... and she looks 6 years younger than her age....

I think personally facial hair should be worn like your clothes or glasses... it should accent your face..... inhance your attributes while camaflageing your flaws....

advantage to facial hair..... is you can conpletely change your look .....

i keep mine trimmed with a 1 guard..... but i can fill in the rest of my face in a week or 2 to match.....

Rye, I do the exact same thing you do. I trim with a trimmer... but I
do shave my neck up to just under my chin.

I've gotten responses across the board on whether I look better with
or without a lot of facial hair.

I just make sure it looks like it's done on purpose... it's no accident
my face looks the way it does. :)

(New Years. . . . . . dick in a box! haha)

Definitely nay.

Women don't want to cuddle with a guy and have her smooth skin brush up against his rough beard. Also, shaving off beards is known to have increased confidence.

I went to a seminar a while back, and all the guys with beards, moustaches, or gotes(?), were instructed to shred off their facial hair. And when they came back, they came in more confident, and pumped up with a newer energy.

This is an interesting topic. Let's discuss this more...

I dunno, I don't feel my confidence has gone down at all since growing the goatee, if anything I'm more confident. I think a lot of it has to do with being congruent with your avatar and a goatee definitely suits mine.
