Just a quick question,

Hailing from a country with mandatory conscription, I will be entering college several years older than most of my peers. And I am, to be honest, feeling very anxious about it. So in short, I feel very out of my age group.

Will this affect me adversely?

Or am I thinking too much into it?

You're thinking too much into it. If you're 50, yeah, it's kind of weird.

Looking at your username, let's assume you're 22. Half people who are 18-20 look like they're 22. Besides, you can get alcohol. I sat next to a 34 year old in my art history class my freshman year. Obviously she lived off campus. Great woman, brought her 15 year old daughter in. Everyone got along with her just fine. Saw her around the campus all the time, got coffee with her, prepared for the tests with her. I was 18. People won't care.

Besides, it's college. You don't HAVE to talk to freshmen. Most, if not all, classes are mixed with students who are older.

If you're living in the dorm, you still don't have to hang out with freshmen. You can, there is no problem with it. If it makes you uncomfortable, however, just meet juniors and seniors.

Nobody will care. Trust me.

^^this is true, I have many freinds who are way older than me(in 30s) and younger,(below21), it doesn't make much of a difference. my general classes had more than several people that were 25+ but no one really cared lol.
All i can say is that enjoy college the best you can, and eff what other people think.

Yep, like the two answers above, you really don't need to worry. Assuming you were born in 1990, you're only going to be 3 or 4 years older than most people anyway - not really a noticeable difference. I'm starting a post grad course this year (I'm the same age as you) at a new university where I'll be having courses and living with normal freshers. But I don't think it will be any different to how it was 3 years ago when I was starting under grad. I look slightly different, but it's not like I'm a whole generation older than the people I'll be around. I still like the same things, can still keep up with the pace of their freshers lifestyles etc. and I'm sure so can you!

Just don't over think it too much, relax, and most importantly have fun!
