I know some people talk for hours, i know some people talk for a short time and get the same amount of progress... Just wondering is there a rule of thumb for how long I should set a time constraint when talking online

Agreed. Get her talking, get her laughing, run with it for a short time. Then say something like "hey I've got to go because of [insert bullshit reason here]. I'd like to message you tomorrow though. Speak to you then!"

Message her again tomorrow. Get her laughing again. Do the same.

On day three ask her out. A date is guaranteed if you've done it right.

Build fun, comfort and intrigue then don't be afraid to close and ask for the date (or phone number). Run with it too long and you run the risk of some other guy entering the picture and stealing her. Online the odds are against you - at least 2 guys to every girl. You have to build rapport to win the date and it takes about 3 days. Don't leave it too long or you lose her to some other smooth operator.

and then he told me to leave the conversation and hopefully that will get her thinking and she will try and talk to me at the next opportunity... the thing is im not sure if these are actually good or just weird...
