text game is a pain. read somewhere that the best texts are to the point and short, but funny/whitty. this works. tried all sorts of texts. asking her out via text should not be too intimidating, which will increase tha chances of her agreeing.
a coffee, is innocent (no one says you have to actually go for the stupid coffee once you got her to comply=), and you can game her face-to-face from there.
ask her to a baseball game or a movie, or (god forbid) a dinner, it sounds serious and increases the chances of her flaking if you did not build enough attraction beforehand.
this is from personal experience. i would do this:
hey, blah blah. hate texting, too impersonal. i want to take you for a coffee on saturday. have practice and meeting some friends until...., but at .... will be in your area. where do i pick you up?
don't beat around the bush dude. it's a time-waster.
