Hi guys.
I am currently in the market for new employment as the company I am working for is insisting that I just bend over to get screwed. And then an idea hit me.
Can the principles learned in pick up be applied in a job hunt.
The first step in this is to come up with a cover letter that will impress an employer so much they cant wait to hire me. (for those who dont know, this is the first thing, and often only thing, a prospective employer reads when you contact them)
So I want all you guys' help in creating the perfect cover letter. We will get to the easier stuff like handling the interview a little later on.
So this is what I have so far:

I saw your advert for (relevant position and publication). After visiting your website and reading a bit about your company I was very interested in the company and what you do. Since June 2010 I have been working full time, first as a Business Process Analyst and later as a Business Process Engineer. During this time I have gained not only experience but a great interest in Continuous Improvement and Business Process Management. I also find the dynamic behaviour of Supply Chain Management fascinating. Since December 2011 I have been asked to lead the engagement with a team of external consultants at the company as well as unofficially take over the leadership of the internal BPM team after a management reshuffle.
I played a crucial part in an initiative to obtain ISO 9001:2008 certification for a number of the company's debartments. I had to provide training in terms of the process approach and understanding as required by ISO as well as train various process authors and owners. As a part of this I completed a course at SABS to be able to perform internal quality audits. I passed with SAATCA accreditation meaning that a small amount of additional experience would qualify me to conduct external audits. I also completed the requirements for a degree in Industrial engineering at the University of Pretoria in November 2011 and the official graduation ceremony took place on 17 April 2012
I am looking for an opportunity where I will be able to grow personally and professionally. Where I will be constantly challenged to provide fresh perspective and ideas. I enjoy working with people and I am comfortable in a leadership position.

I look forward to hearing from you
Regards

Read advice from reliable careers sites on doing this as that will be a lot more useful than my thoughts! But, as a writer and a guy who used to interview people for jobs, I can offer a few thoughts -

"I saw your advert for (relevant position and publication). After visiting your website and reading a bit about your company I was very interested in the company and what you do."

This is too vague sounding in my opinion, make it more punchy. I'd remove "a bit about your company" and "very interested" and maybe say something along the lines of "I admire x y and z about (whichever company) and feel that my skills and experience would be a good fit for your organisation.

The rest of what you write could be improved in a couple of ways, I think. Firstly, I think you're rehashing your resume/CV too much. A cover letter should highlight a few key aspects and directly relate them to the company/role to which you are applying.

Secondly, it's too much focused on you and your background. Instead, focus on the company, and how your skills and personality would be a good match for their organisational goals and culture.
