I'm 5'11" 175lb, athletic body type with naturally large calves. They're 16 friggin inches of like pure muscle. It's genetics and I'm trying to work my shoulders and forearms to look proportional. I like the fact I don't have wimpy chicken legs, but how can I slim down my calves?

Running/jumping/calf raises add weight and resistance to your legs which'll make them even bigger sooo....what, do I need to do yoga and pilates in order to make them toner?

These calves are built for SPEED rather long distances. I can outrun most people less than a mile because it offers short bursts of power. In MMA, it helps me not fall down. Performance wise, it's an advantage, but my legs don't looks good when I wear shorts because of it and when I wear jeans, it rubs off hair from the back of my calf if I'm running/squatting/sitting.

I have barely any hair on my arms and this pisses me off. Why can't my body focus of producing hair on my arms, sideburns, and a cool beard instead of pubes. Bottom line, I'm athletic body type, but these built calves make me look disproportional.

I'm in the same boat as you man. Naturally large calves, skinny on top athletic, and built for speed. My advice to you is. Deal with it. They're a fucking gift, love your calves.

For the jeans thing, personally even with my large calves I love wearing skinny jeans. The trick is to buy a belt, and pants that are 2 inches bigger on the waist but same length.

For the shorts, deal with it. Show off dem calves.

I'd trade my chicken legs for your calves any day.

I have big quads and tiny calves. The calves just wont grow. My legs are like a drumstick piece of chicken.

The only way you can slim them down is to stop eating, so that with an absence of food or fat to use as fuel, your body will start breaking down the protein in the muscle fibers for energy. The problem with that is that your life will suck and you'll look anorexic.

It would be better to build the other muscles so the rest of your body is in proportion to your calves, but the problem isn't as bad as you think.

Sorry, but 16 inch calves on a 5' 11" frame aren't that impressive.

Starving myself would cause me to lose muscle in other parts of my body as well so that won't help. I remember having 16 inch calves and I just now measured them again- they are between 16 1/2 to 17 inches at the widest part. If you really are a cyclist, you probably have thin legs like a flamingo.

Sorry Looksgoodnaked, but your attempt to marginalize my reply doesn't diminish its validity (and the part about not eating wasn't serious, but rather to illustrate how ridiculous your original question was).

16 inch calves on a 5' 11" frame ain't sh*t. Do us all a favor, go to a popular weightlifting forum, brag about your "LARGE" calves that are "16 friggin inches of like pure muscle" and how genetically blessed you are, and see what they say about it. I can tell you this, it won't be pretty.

Don't come to this board looking for validation, your original post is begging for it. Learn the game.

Ok, so let me ask you this; how large are YOUR calves? If you think I'm bragging about my calves, you're mistaken. How about keeping onto the topic instead of instigating. I have no idea why you're attacking me personally as if I banged your girlfriend.

"LARGE" calves, and "16 friggin inches of like pure muscle" and you're not bragging? Right.

I'm not attacking you, merely pointing out how you're constantly seeking validation from other males, which is not something a PUA would do. Now you want to know the size of my calves, because you think if yours are bigger than you will have that validation.

Sorry bub, I've got you beat by a mile, calves and otherwise.

You just said 16 inches isn't shit, but refuse to say how large yours are. Yeah bro, you sure showed me. Mine ARE large, and it IS all muscle- if you paid any attention in anatomy class you know muscle can be toned down. I made this thread to see what exercises I can do to do just that.

Just work more on your upper body and core, and be large all-round! Get some cardio in at least 3 days a week so you can condition your muscles to be able to move them too.

When I began training in Muay Thai, I did a lot of leg work, and even if I was working on punches and elbows, the legs were also given a workout when the movement and footwork were mixed into it.

I had a muscular, but small upper body and arms, but disproportionately large quads, hamstrings and calves. It was like I was wearing big clown pants.

It was ridiculous.

Here you are again, crying for validation. You have absolutely no idea what being an alpha male is. One person tells you to not be so full of yourself because your inflated idea of self worth isn't grounded in reality, and you throw a hissy fit and start acting like a whiny bitch. Additionally, you obsess and demand to know what the size of my calves are because if they are smaller you think you've "won," but if I tell you they're bigger your fragile state of self esteem won't allow you to believe it. The funny thing is, your entire response, and to some degree your emotional state, is dependent on my answer. You are no alpha male. I have DQ'd you several times now and you keep trying to qualify yourself to me, which proves you are no PUA either.

You don't need my opinion. If you think your calves are so great, prove it. Go to a weight lifting forum, post your original statement, and see what their opinion is. After all, these are people with truly impressive calves. Be sure and put "LARGE" in all caps in the title, and refer to your calves as "16 friggin inches of like pure muscle" and see what they say. Until you do, you're simply living in your own little fantasy world, and obviously, it is something you feel is easily threatened or else you wouldn't be acting this way.

Class is over, now go to the gym. Your calves need to be bigger before you start bragging about them so much.

Wow, get a life you idiot. I don't give a shit how big your calves are- I was pointing out your insecurities, but you're too stupid to see that. If anything, you're the one who's trying to qualify yourself to me; I just ended the convo by indicating the purpose of the thread and you chose to disregard that and type this huge ass post. You're just begging for attention. Get lost kid, trolls don't belong on this forum. I'm surprised a moderator hasn't deleted all your bullshit posts.
