So, I've been checking out some of David DeAngelo's stuff, he talks about cocky comedy, and how you can never really use too much of it and one should avoid "normal" conversations.. But eventually you have to get to know your date to a more personal level.

Is the cocky comedy merely a tool you use in the beginning to establish a higher frame? is that all there is to it?

I'm confused about how much you should use cocky comedy, and how much you should discuss more serious stuff, like family, interests and so forth, especially on date 1 and 2.

Man I sound like a social retard when I read over this, but what the heck..

I personally would not use it to the extent he does, but I do see it as valuable.

For me I use it for the intro I actually do a rap around style where if I really like the girl I may go back and say hey so seriously you asked me about this and I am actually really passionate about this and tell her why. But then go back to being cocky funny. It shows you have a serious side and you have a passion for something but lets you continue the fun.

I heard him address this topic. He says he emphasises it so much becuase the natural tendancy (for guys who aren't "naturals" at least) is to revert to being boring. He acknowleges that you shouldn't always be funny. He says if he teaches to be funny all the time it will produce the right balance in the field.

It's not necessarily only used in the beginning of a pickup - but yes, it's used to establish frame control. You can use it in the beginning of a pickup and then calibrate emotionally to build a deeper bond, or you can use it later to handle shit tests and such.

Striking that perfect blend comes with experience, the type you only get from actually putting yourself out there. It's impossible to master by only conceptually studying it. But always remember this:

You must learn to READ your target. if you're using c/f and you see she's slowly getting desensitized to your advances, switch up to building more of an emotional connection. If you see that she's getting bored with your nice guy attitude, throw in some cocky funny. KNOW your target.

I read once (I think it was in a short e-book by some Polish PUA) that only ugly guys should really use cocky funny, because good looking guys who use this a lot come off as arrogant douchebags and that's it. So take that into consideration.

personally i find cocky funny works best over text because
you can be as cocky as you want over text as long as you establish that you are completely teasing her right from the get go so then no matter what you say after that she knows your fucking with her and if you got something serious to say call her or be like "ok seriously now".

cocky funny just adds fun interaction to normal conversation and makes it not boring.
