I gave this a bit of a go the other night. I approached a chick who I was checking out and hovering around a fair bit, and whom asked me if I was having a good night a bit earlier.

I made sure I then gave the 'deadpan' look and looked directly at her as she gave her reply. Surprisingly, her positiveness didn't evaporate it at all. She wasn't looking directly at me as she spoke but her reply was very apologetic saying her boyfriend was just over there (pointing behind me where there was a couple of guys she was talking to before with her friends, I didn't turn around to look).

Anyway, I wasn't really prepared for this moment with the possible necessity of doing a takeaway. I kept my emotionless face with maybe a hint of a very small quick smile in response to her happy 'sorry' as she touched me on the shoulder. I then mumbled 'I'll give you a few minutes', I think she said sorry again and that was it.

Now I don't know if she was lying or not, if she was it was a pretty good lie. But it was a pick-up attempt that failed (who knows? maybe I shouldn't have gone in for the kill) but still went surprisingly well in a manner of speaking. Not the usual pick-up attempt where the chick shows no sign of pleasure in my advances. Probably won't always get this same level of positiveness but I might try this again sometime. Certainly didn't get shot down.
