First, Inner Game. learn how to do the approach with a positive mindset, as if you know that she's already attracted to you and that you will hit it off. Picture - yourself having a really interesting conversation and then her giving you her number - as you are walking up to her.

And then as teh_weapon said. open, open, open, open.

If I practice routines and lines, I find that it will clog my mind and I will do even worse.

Also, don't let failure bring you down.

For direct approaches I would recommend looking into daygame.com .... Yad is really good with this stuff. I use something like this and It's worked a few time (I just started direct approaches)

"Excuse me, I know this is gonna sound kinda random, but I just noticed you walking past(pause).... and I had to tell you....(make pauses) that you got a really nice sense of style. It's elegant."

After the Thanks, I start making assumptions of where she's from and then the rest happens in the moment.

note that most girls won't know what to say and they will want to eject, because it's too much tension for them to handle... but the key is to plow through.

like...if she wants to leave I say "Don't let a friendly hi go to waste, stop and talk to me. I gotta go leave in a couple minutes anyway"
