Hey fellas!
I just got myself some nice dogtags and I plan to put on my last name, first name, date of birth, bloodtype and a nice saying or a DHV spike on the backside. Should I change anything? What should be written that could also be a great DHV spike?

I thank you all in advance for your answers :)

well coming from the military I hate how dog tags are a 'fashion' statement, but with that being said are you looking for them to look authentic?

I don't want them to be too authentic because I think that you need to earn the right to have USMC or USN written on them...

I'm going to be completely honest and you probally will not like my answer but I dislike the whole dogtag idea if you are not in the military. I think it is kind of disrespectful especially if you are trying to use them to pick up women. That is just my honest opinion.

Yeah, the only time I think dog tags are solid when you aren't military is when it is medically related. If you have some sort of condition where you should tag yourself then yeah makes sense but no other reasons outside of the military.

Well what about those who want to be in the military??, and what about showing appreciation for our service men and wemon by wearing dogtags, raising the subject of military during a conversation and how you admire it, i personally have dog tags.. never take them off for anything, saying that i do plan to join the marines very soon, now of course if you dont support any kind of military then i wouldnt advise wearing them, it just seems contradicting to wear a symbol of military and not support it.... also i see how the other posters about how its "disrespectful" and "not solid".. well what about camoflauge.. thats military and no one kicks a fuss about that so i dont see how dogtags are any different, i can see where the others would think its some kind of special right to wear dogtags beaucse they served or have a medical condition but that doesnt mean others cant wear them as well, besides serving the country should be a special right in itself, the dogtags are merely a symbol, no matter how its used.

Dog tags are a symbol, a symbol that means a lot to many people. Some of us feel the same about Camou too, I don't care to be one of the tools sporting either of them. Besides that camou is also used for hunting where it makes sense. Dog tags there is no legitimate reason outside of allowing people to identify you. I especially get annoyed with all the stupid brand names on them. Or little quirky messages, so disrespectful. Earn them or leave them alone.

I'm not a person who wears camou or tags(though I have a medical condition), I don't see any purpose to it. It doesn't represent who I am or want to be. If you want to join the military then join it, don't say I plan on joining. That is ridiculous earn them or leave them.

The flag is a symbol of our country how would you feel if I dragged it down the road in back of me? Is that cool? NO absolutely not. You don't disrespect symbols it shows your disrespect for what it represents, your country. Your SPAM of symbols such as dog tags like it is everyone's right to wear them takes away the value of that symbol. It is sad that people don't respect our military in this day and age and belittle their symbols with the everyday usage of them.

You can show your appreciation for service men and women with out stealing their symbols. With patches or hats, or patriotic apparel, but you have no right to wear part their uniform. They earned it you should too. If we disagree I apologize, if it is to show respect for them, that is cool, but if it is to peacock like starting conversations about the military I strongly disagree. You shouldn't be wearing them to show them off then, you should be wearing them for you and you only.

I see where your coming from, i wouldnt go as far as to compare it to draging a flag on the ground, thats just outright disrespect, and considering im not of age to join yet its not very ridiculous, i can gaurentee alot of americans have a swiss army knife yet none have served in the swiss army.. doesnt mean others cant enjoy owning them, its like saying you have to earn wearing a polo shirt, yet people who dont play polo wear them, all symbols, but also all enjoyed, doesnt mean its being disrespected, its more like an appreciation to want to own one, only when its used in morbid ways does it become disrespectful, hopefully that clears things up slightly. malt&salt as far as changing anything on them id say probably not, i might skip out on a dhv saying, to me its always pointless to dhv directly.. the best dhv is the one you dont have to brag about, like having a mansion and being quiet about it until she comes to your houes and finds out, maybe a motivational saying so everytime you look at them your reminded to be confident or funny ect.. hope that helps towards a decision :)
