To set up the clip, Gary Cooper's a cowboy who visits a girl he met on a blind date the night before. They had a swell time, and he's smitten. As you can see he's a complete AFC for most of the clip, and the girl is polite but turned off. Basically, it's an excess of comfort without any tension -- until he does something bold at the end to prove he's not an AFC after all. Watch:

Yep, sometimes you just have to throw a bitch in a pool. The actress is Merle Oberon. Check out the look on her face as she's getting out of the pool. That's the look of broken rapport and sudden, all-consuming attraction.
Naturally, she chases after him. He NEVER apologizes. Rather, he tells her to go to hell, and that just turns her on more, etc., until finally she wins him over. He made himself a challenge, and she responded to that.
