So last night I went to my roommate's friend's apartment party with a few other guys not really with the intention of "gaming" since I've been out of the game for a while and I only was just going to have a good time. However I was getting bored, didn't know many people, and had more drinks than I should have. I noticed that there were maybe 3 guys for every girl there. A few times I'd make small half way attempt ex: Girl bumping into me and me shaking my head, she'd jokingly ask why I was doing that ect. However I didn't know where to take it from there.

Anyway, there was this Hookah room where I grabbed a seat and probably spent an hour in there just making conversation with the guys and a few girls who happened to join. Eventually this one girl joined where I just causally "being myself" made conversation with her (what's her major, how's life ect.) but she would show equal interest back so I knew I wasn't blowing it ..yet. However there was this other typical AFC guy sitting on the other side of her and he would constantly be offering her to smoke and stealing the conversation from me ect. While they were talking he was always leaning in and all over her but what made surprised me is she was responding to him positively as well! I didn't want to leave and risk losing my seat so I just told myself I am not there to game, just to smoke and have fun (but game if the opportunity presented myself). Eventually the topic came up about sports and she mentioned 2 football teams I hate and I jokingly said ok conversation is over but I didn't know where to take it after that. Maybe 2 minutes later everyone had to leave and that was that.

I am just wondering what I should do in a situation like that? I was in front of my roommates and other guys smoking hookah so I wasn't going to do kino routines and the cube and all that stuff in front of them since they would think I was being weird. I just didn't know where the conversation was going and how to take it in a way to ask for her number.

My #1 problem in the game has always been how/where to take the conversation after opening and how to ask for her number without being too direct/creepy. It seems like when I have asked in the past (even after a deep meaningful conversation) I was always direct and it never worked out.

Keep the obstacles (AFC`s in your case) interested, alienate the target. Make sure attentions on you, then bounce your target. Everything after that is quite easy. Isolating should be the only problem.

If you want the girl, you have to show interest at some point.
