When taking the online target to IM (it's generally easier to talk via IM than through e-mail or Myspace's mail) wouldn't it be good to have an interesting screen name? I think there's some potential for this -- if they ask you about your screen name it'd be easy to have a DHV story associated with it. Wouldn't it be possible to peacock with screen names too? ;)

Let me know what you guys think, maybe we can dive a bit deeper with this.

I can't speak for everyone else on the forum, but I don't think is necessary to peacock or DHV with a little screen name. I use my PUA name as my screen name on AIM and Yahoo.

I didn't say anywhere that it's necessary, only that it could be beneficial. Just as wearing a medallion or a ring is not by any means necessary, but if a girl comments on them it would be beneficial to have a DHV story with it. I think it's possible to use a screen name in the same way if it's interesting enough.

I completely agree. This isn't necissary, but I would say you should make sure your name typically doesn't contain numbers (unless there is a reason for it, not just because the name was taken already) and that it doesn't make you sound stupid. Once you've gotten past those two disqualifiers (yeah, I don't like talking to people with numbers in their names and I know a lot of people feel the same), then if you can work something in that will spark some interest, great!

Personally I don't change my screen name on msn very often, aside from the personal message thing, but if I can work in something that's going to make people ask, "What does that mean?", "Why'd you pick that for a name?" then all the better. Anytime you can lead someone into a story and make them feel like they were the one asking and inconvieniencing you, now you're being gracious by telling them this interesting story and they appreciate it and feel closer to you for being let in.

That's a good point -- numbers are a big no-no. Screen names that are in complete capitals or use alternating capitals e.g. LoLhI should be avoided as well. Oh, and overuse of the "x" can be annoying.

If screen names can hurt you by using numbers and overuse of capitals, we may as well use them to help us by making them interesting.

Yeah i agree with that too and asked some women and they say your screen name must show something that she's interested in and that you both can do together e.g Sailor Guy. It's good to say you're a photographer or have a photographer friend. don't say I love running say i love running in the early hours of the morning with a friend and watch the sunrise blah blah blah...

Never use a nickname like this: a LONELY guy who looks for gf - or any damn thing that shows you're lonely.

And btw, i tried some random screen name and used a female photo and signed in. Try that. The responses are TREMENDOUS!. see what i'm talking about?
